The Supporting Carers Better Network was set up for all People Supporting Carers in Mental Health in England. It aims to identify and share good practice, and connect people.
In 2000 Together set up the original Supporting Carers Better Meeting, for professionals supporting carers in mental health. As a direct result of this Meeting, and Together's recognition that those who support carers of people with metal health problems needed a network of information and support themselves, the idea of the Supporting Carers Better Network (SCB Network) was borne.
In the Spring of 2002 Together received 3 years Department of Health Section 64 Funding, to develop the SCB Network and share good practice among 'those supporting carers in mental health', covering England, from whence its membership has continued to grow.
During 2005 Together and the SCB Network made a further successful bid for DoH Section 64 Funding to enable the development of a National Carers Support Curriculum and to continue the work of the SCB Network.
The SCB Network is able to connect people supporting carers in mental health in England to share good practices, procedures, policies, learning, strategies and knowledge to improve the lives of mental health carers. It also supports the effective delivery of the National Service Framework (MH) Section 6 - The Carers Standard.
This is a broad community (see 'Who is it for'), covering deliverers and developers of services, strategists and policymakers, carers representatives, 'gate-keepers' to carer identification and support, information sources and more.
The SCB Network is tasked with:
- Network database development
- Network directory production
- Conferences and events - nationally, regionally and locally
- Network newsletters
- This web-site
- Network promotion - to conferences, AGM's, open days, MP's, agencies etc.
- Network training - needs identification, and (pointing to) provision
