It can be horribly annoying annoying when you switch on your computer and wait, for what seems like an age, till it loads up. Eventually it does get going and you click on a program icon and wait yet more for the program to start up.

When the computer was newer it wasn’t like that. It started smoothly in a lot less time than it takes now. What is causing this problem?

Well over a period of time your registry has become clogged with many useless entries. The operating system is slowed to a crawl as it tries to find its way through the huge assortment of fragmental data. Often freezing problems will occur also. The only way to solve this problem is to edit your registry and remove all the unwanted material.

What is your computer’s registry? Well, simply put,it is an information bank which the Windows operating system uses to manage the computer and programs.

Over the course of time the registry becomes plugged with bits of programs which were not properly or completely uninstalled. Also contributing to the problem are parts of programs which were never completely installed, useless drivers and much other fragmentary material from various sources. Spyware can be present and will also harm the performance of your computer.

The best way to correct this is to use a good registry repair application. There are a considerable number of registry cleaning programs available and after trying out most of them we have reached our conclusion as to the best.

Many of these applications offer to scan your computer free of charge. They will then report their findings to you with no obligation, and will tell you what is needed to get your computer working properly again. You can decide whether you want use the registry cleaning application,to edit your registry,or to remove the unwanted material yourself.

If you have the required knowledge you can tackle the registry yourself and edit out the unwanted material. But be very cautious here. Be very careful about what you delete from your registry.

You can very easily remove vital data resulting in big problems. You can disable your computer if you accidentally remove some data needed for its operation. This is not a job for someone who has little idea of what is essential data and what is not.

It is much better to make use of a registry cleaning application which is easy to use, safe and will remove only unecessary entries.

The registry cleaning program will start by backing up your registry so that it can be restored if required. It will then remove such things as duplicate files, fragmented programs, unused drivers and shortcuts, spyware, invalid fonts, paths and file types and a lot more.

The computer should then be restored to full speed and running smoothly. It feels really great to get back to the fine performance you computer had when it was newer.

We recommend a program we have used and have found to be superior to the rest. Once and for all get rid of the annoyance of a slow running balky computer–it is well worth it.

By: John Mowatt

How do you connect pc to TV? What are the tools that you need or is there any software necessary to accomplish this?

To have a connection between your pc and TV you would need a cable which would serve as a converter. The cable is a cord which connects to the pc and outputs the image coming from the monitor to the television which the other cable end is connected. This would allow you to watch internet TV or DVD in your pc DVD drive but the viewing would be seen on the TV. It’s like making your TV a huge monitor for your pc where you can actually surf the Net, view pictures and many more. If you enjoy home entertainment, or love to watch movies at home, this is the initial move to making a Home Theatre PC.

There are various kinds of PC to TV cables, each function in somewhat dissimilar ways. One of the known differences between cables is the way it is connected to the pc. This can be done on the outputs of the computers video card wherein the monitor is connected. Another cause of differences between cables is the way it is connected to the television; they have types of input connections. The third reason is because some cables serves as converters. A regular PC/TV cable simply directs what’s on the pc to the television. But if you have a modernized TV with several enhancement options and your pc is well upgraded, then you might be able to manipulate on how to make the images appear better on the TV screen. If the cable is a converter then the images will automatically be adjusted, meaning you don’t need to change any settings on your pc or tv. You simply need to plug the cable and watch the videos. These types of cables usually necessitate a power source like USB port from your pc.

What must you do to connect pc to TV? What you need to do is connect the USB cord of the PC to TV cable into its matching port on your computer. Next is to link the VGA Y-cord’s blue connector marked as “PC” to the monitor or VGA port that can be found at the back of your computer. You could either link the composite video which is indicated through a yellow RCA jack or an S-Video which is a pure black 4-pin connection output to an S-Video cable or composite video cable. Not to worry if you lack a video cable as this is easily available at any hardware or electronics store. You must link the VGA monitor cord with the VGA Y-cord’s blue connector marked as “monitor”. If you are using a laptop then the end connector which is marked as “monitor” cannot be used. You must connect the video cable end with the video input of the TV or projector or any other equipment that you will utilize. You can toggle the input display to match with the input video that you’re going to use. With the toggle option you can control the input to display whatever you prefer the tv to display. Each TV differs from the other so you could refer the TV user guide for further instructions. Finally you could turn on the pc and let it boot up for you to see the result.

By: John Sugarman

A computer processor is in charge of analyzing data and controlling the flow of data in a computer. Also called the CPU or central processing unit, it is considered to be the brain of the computer since it performs the actual data processing. A computer processor is packaged as a small microchip which is designed to fit a socket of a motherboard. With speeds ranging between 2.66 and 3.66 gigahertz, there are different types of computer processors available.

Different types of computer processors

Some of the types you can choose from include:

Intel computer processors – exclusively designed by Intel, the latest and most popular models of these computer processors include the Pentium 4 processor, Pentium 4 processor with HT Technology, and the Celeron Processor. As for functions, the Pentium 4 model is a powerful processor that’s capable of handling demanding applications like 3D gaming, DVD authoring, and other multimedia applications, while the Pentium 4 with HT Technology is made to run efficiently with lesser response times even though multiple applications are running simultaneously. The Celeron processors, on the other hand, is ideal because it is compatible with all software and computer hardware brands.

AMD computer processors – providing excellent value and performance, these processors are exclusively made by AMD or Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., compatible as well with most off-the-shelf applications and programs. Some of these computer processors are also programmed to include their own anti-virus protection. The most popular models are the Athlon 64 and the Athlon XP. The Athlon 64 is made for more advanced computers, particularly those running 64-bit programs, allowing complex games and other software to be used, while the Athlon XP enhances XP applications with better images and graphics.

How to choose

The different types of computer processors available in the market today all have a particular function that they’re good at. As such, understanding what you require will help you in figuring out the right one for you. If your budget will also allow it, go for the latest models so you don’t have to upgrade frequently.

By: Ilse Hagen

PCs or personal computers have become a very integral part of lives. We cannot imagine our lives without the computer or the Internet in our homes. As we all very well know an average life of a computer in our homes is around two to three years. However, the life of a computer mostly depends on how we maintain them and how we use them.

One of the best ways to keep our computer healthy is to defrag the hard drive, especially the partition which accommodates the operating system. Defragmenting and Disk Scanning the hard drive is a very good practice and needs to be done on a regular basis. What this does is that it collects all the fragmented and files and arranges them close together. This lessens the load on the operating system when it accesses the files. However, this practice does not reduce the load from the hard disk.

If you are an Internet user, there will be a lot of files which get stored in your computer when you access the Internet. You will not need these files once you close the websites unless you have stored the passwords in your cookies. The files which are stored on your computer are called as the temporary Internet files and the cookies. The temporary Internet files are also called as the cache. Therefore, you will need to make sure that you clear the cache the cookies regularly.

Your computer could have a lot of startup programs, these programs will slow down the booting of your computer. Therefore, you will need to check and find out if there are any programs which unnecessarily run during the startups. If you are unaware about how to remove the startup programs, you could find some good information on the Internet to guide you with few simple steps to remove the startup programs.

Your computer will have a lot of programs or applications which are not used by you and also the ones which are absolutely not required. You could uninstall these programs from the control panel. The option to remove the unwanted programs from the computer in the control panel is Add / Remove Programs icon. It is from this place where you can easily remove the unwanted programs which are installed on your computer. You computer will surely operate faster after this.

There will be a lot of files left on your computer even after uninstalling the unnecessary programs. These files could have been normally the files which were created by those programs. Since the software does not exist, these files cannot be run and hence they become the orphan files. If you have an alternative program to run these files, you could use the ‘open with’ option and assign them to be used by these programs in the future.

There are some applications like the Cleansweep which will automatically detect the unwanted files and prompt you to delete them. It is better to use these kinds of programs rather than trying to find the necessary files by yourself and deleting them. If you are not very sure about the files which are to be deleted, there are chances that you might end up deleting the files which might damage your operating system itself.

However, it would be a very good idea to take backups of the important files before running any deleting software on your computer.

You might want to consider the inputs mentioned in this article to ensure longevity and good performance of your computer.

By: Gregg Hall
